工房について · About the Studio
土と向き合う、静かな仕事。
samqpots is a small ceramics studio based in Singapore. Each piece is made one at a time — thrown on the wheel, trimmed by hand, and fired in a small kiln. There is no production line. There is no rush. Only clay, and whatever the day brings.
制作について · The Work
Every piece begins as a lump of raw clay and ends as something only the kiln could have decided.
The studio works in small batches — sometimes just a handful of pieces at a time. This is intentional. Smaller batches mean more attention, more variation, and more room for the unexpected. No two pieces are identical, even when they start from the same intention.
形は意図から生まれ、釉薬は炎が決める。
Form comes from intention. Glaze is decided by flame.
The work is slow by design. Pottery cannot be hurried. Clay has its own pace — drying time, firing schedules, cooling windows. This slowness is not a limitation. It is the practice itself.
"The kiln is the last collaborator.
Whatever comes out belongs to both of us."
制作工程
菊練り
Clay is prepared by hand — wedged to remove air pockets and align the particles. This step determines everything that follows. Rush it, and the piece will crack.
轆轤
The clay is centred on the wheel and opened. Walls are pulled upward and shaped. Each form is thrown in a single session — no returning to it later.
削り
Once leather-hard, the piece is trimmed — excess clay removed, the foot ring defined. Then it dries slowly, covered loosely, for days.
施釉・焼成
Glazes are applied by hand — dipped, poured, or brushed. The kiln does the rest. Temperatures above 1200°C. What comes out is never exactly what went in.
哲学 · Philosophy
一点物
No two pieces are identical. Each is a singular object made once, in one session, by one pair of hands.
手仕事
No moulds. No casting. Every form is touched at every stage — from the wedging table to the glaze bucket.
侘び寂び
Imperfection is not corrected. The small warps, uneven glazes, and fire marks are what make a piece alive.
